hi, ’ Karmas’ , it is completely my pleasure to help you.
Well, there are few things to be noted down before you install drivers for ATI Drivers.
First, It is a great NEWS that ATI Technologies. introduced a new Drivers for Linux plateform, particularly for SuSE Linux. So don’t worry nothing can make you away to use SuSE ok.
So , Do as the following Instructions…
first instruction is :
if you use SuSE , then Remember one thing, you are on ’ Xorg 6.8.0.x.x ’ , ok , NOT ON ’ XFREE86. ’
So go to ATI’s download section and choose ‘linux drivers and support’, and then go to the link of .rpm file which is the most appropritate for your Graphics card series and Download file for " XORG 6.8.0 "
Second,
km_fglrx . . .* rpm is in the suse cds or dvd. So you don’t need to search it on net. Your SuSE cds or dvd contains it. Alright. So , you download only Driver file.
Third,
open YaST and go to " Install And Remove Softwares " Section and Check if the following
packages are installed in your system…(To check make search of each package one by one.)
XFree86-Mesa-libGL
· libstdc++
· libgcc
· XFree86-libs
· fontconfig
· expat
· freetype
· zlib
. kernel-source
. km_fglrx
Fourth,
Add the following line in your /etc/fstab file
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
and save the file now.
Next , run the following two commands one by one in Terminal or Console
mount /dev/shm
mount | grep “shm”
Second command should generate the following output like :
tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
Fifth,
Open YaST and go to ’ Install And Remove Softwares ’ and Make search for word " fglrx" , ( Ofcourse without Quotes)It MUST Shows the following two packages…
- fglrx ( Discription : Bindary only ATI Drivers ) UNINSTALL IT.
- km_fglrx ( Discription : Sources for the DRM kernel module of the binary-only ATI ‘fglrx’ driver.) INSTALL IT.
Sixth,
Open /boot/config-2.6.11.4-20a-default file in " kwrite " or any other word editor.
and make sure if the following line is there…
CONFIG_AGP=y
if yes,
then proceed
if not then add this line into the following section of this file…
Ftape, the floppy tape device driver
Sixth,
now open, Terminal or Console
cd
and install the driver with following command
rpm -Uhv fglrx64_6_8_0_..*. rpm
after this give command
fglrxconfig
it will start a configuration Wizard…
just press " Enter " for all the option expect two…
1st Option,
HSYNC & VSYNC of your monitor , Put exact values for these two options yourself…
NOTE : - ( YOU CAN FIND MAXIMUM HSYNC & VSYNC OF YOUR MONITOR AT MONITOR’S CARRY BOX OR MANUAL )
2nd Option,
when you be asked to use " External agpgart Module " then press " Y " ( Yes )
At last in ’ fglrxconfig - Configuration Wizard ’ you will asked to write these configuration, you set by pressin Enter & Enter, to your xorg.xonf file So you Press “Y” (Yes) again.
and as the Wizard finish.
Reboot system…
you will get your ATI drivers installed in your system
That’s It.
Lastly, Because you did not mention that which SuSE version , whether x86 ( 32 BIT) or x86_64 (64 BIT) use therefore , I assume that you are using ‘SuSE 9.3 x86_64.’
if you are on x86 (32 BIT) then , ignore the " External agpgart Module " option , you can press just enter as you are supposed to do for others…
Please write me if you get desired result, if confront any problme you may reply or email me.
thanks & regards…[/quote]
